Fun at Whroo

Mmmm, homemade apricot pie...

I felt like making that rhyme like you hoo fun at whroo or something (I think I'm tired).

Remains of old house, complete with fruit and peppercorn trees..
.

On our nice long weekend, pete and i decided to go to have a picnic at Whroo. We packed up the car and off we went. This time we went to all the places that we never bother going cos there's not a whole lot to see and they never change. But pete hadn't seen most of them, and i hadn't most of them since i was a kid, so we acted like tourists.

Then i had a wander over the hills and far away trying to find the remains of grandma's house again. I wonder if we'll ever figure out where it was.

Waranga Basin In Pictures no3

Waranga Basin In Pictures no2

(Blogger goes berserk when I put in too many pictures. Hence my multiple posts....)

The Lovely Waranga Basin

After our marvellous Australia Day celebrations, we decided to go to Waranga Basin, seeing as it was a holiday and all, and the Basin is a fine piece of australiana (does that count, if it's man-made?). Well we had to make my day off worthwhile anyway. And it was hot, but not too hot.
The water was so low. and there was weird machinery over by the wall, near the water. Maybe it was pumping equipment, cos neville said they've had to pump into the channel again cos it was too low to flow out.

While we were there, admiring the weird landscape and things buried in the sand, only unearthed because the water has disappeared, some helicopter like machines flew over us, and the (pilots?) waved at us. I don't think they had to fly over us, they just wanted to say hello. Pete says he thinks they were some kit like things that you actually have to make, you can't just buy them. Maybe. They were certainly weird-looking.

Then as we were leaving, people emerged from the trees in the direction of the helicopters, and (drove?) away in a boat that had been sitting there by itself the whole time we were there. It seemed like a nice lifestyle to me. Flying, boating, all in the same afternoon.

The Aussie

Australians all let us rejoice....

Well so much for that last post, btw. I give up on it.It's lost in edit land.Hey at least I can read it;)

So we come to our annual patriotic festivities and
celebrations. Pete's first Australia Day as a citizen. I took Emmi at the last minute cos she wanted to go.
Then we practically ran there cos we wanted to get a good seat. But everyone else was late anyway. Then emmi sat with her friends anyway. Well as long as we were all happy.

Had the singing, mikes and the gang did their now traditional (well second year in a row, so it's tradition now I reckon) extra verse of 'I am Australian'. Plus a second new verse this year. That they kept forgetting how it went, and so we sang it three times. I shall have to get the official words off Mikes and put them on here. The australian anthem we had the band doing it at one speed, the singer doing it at another speed and the audience racing ahead at a different speed altogether. We got it together by the last line.

They had a speaker who said a lot of good stuff but went for over half an hour and it was a very long ceremony.

Fun in the sun

The ladies on the log....

More fun in the sun

BECAUSE:

1. I wish i was having some fun in the sun.

2. I shall include photos of 18th birthday party at the river that we went to last week (well it might not have been too sunny by the time we got there, but hey it had sand)

Some mysterious internet force of nature/google/my computer going on the fritz has prevented me from blogging for an entire week. The last post was sitting there in edit land going nowhere and when it would finally let me sign in (infrequently) it would not let me do anything else. It seems to like me today tho.

SO woohoo we finally got a digital camera. Dad gave us some money for christmas when we went down there and we used it to mostly pay for it.

I have been half planning a holiday (for a few days at least) in March maybe. I'm thinking of going to the mornington peninsula, cos I want to go to the beach & there's always lots to see down there. Although I'd be happy if all i saw was a nice bit of beach, the couch and some books. So I'm just trying to find a nice place for us to stay that's not too expensive. At least it won't be summer prices. I would LOVE a holiday (she says, for the fiftieth time :) ).

The weird and the wonderful

And so this is my first post of the year. How wonderful. I know this year is going to be weird and wonderful, because I think every year is in some way. When you think past bad days and tiredness and tomorrow.
Speaking of weird and wonderful, (and this was in fact what started this whole train of thought), I was thinking how you could do a blog on family stories/legends/family urban myths, but in fact I wouldn't be able to stop at my family, and then there'd be no end to it. Does everyone have those stories that get circulated again and again, that you wish someone would write a book about? Do some people have those families where nobody talks about anything? Well actually, half of my family is a bit like that so who am I to wonder. Not the nasty stories though. Unless its true and they're generations dead.
And all those demented animal stories. Like birds that bear grudges against letterboxes and stuff.
AND I always say when a children relations of mine do and say cute and bizarre things 'you should write that down' and some do get retold endlessly. And I wish I would bother to do it when we have kids. Although I don't have time to do half the things I want to now, let alone then.

Don't you hate it when your stupid post deletes half of it when you try to save it?? GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR So there blogger blaahhhhnie

Well.
Last week I worked three days at my 'new' job and two at my 'old' job, for the first time. Finally. This week i might even get to work four days there. And at my 'old' job, they finally hired a new tech. He starts tomorrow. So things should go better there for everybody too.

I give up trying to edit this post it has gone beserk on me.....
